Sandalina, una storia che fa ridere.

Sandalina è un brano dell’album Il punto e fa parte della sezione acusrica del progetto, insieme a Non ti voltare, Cose che succedono e Tutto il bisogno che hai. Sandalina è stata scritta molti anni fa…credo quasi venti a dire il vero; praticamente due vite fa (!). Faceva parte di una demo dei Triplo gioco, la mia vecchia band, cui volli aggiungere questo brano “bucolico” che si ispirava un po’ ad Angelo Branduardi e un po’ ai Led Zeppelin, una filastrocca dolce senza particolari o profondi significati, ma molto carina e ispirata. Molti anni fa ebbi l’occasione di incontrare Stefano D’Orazio nel quartier generale dei Pooh grazie ai buoni auspici di Maria Amelia Monti, che conoscevo per via del lavoro di suo nonno, il grande pittore Cesare Monti. Maria Amelia mi introdusse e Stefano mi accolse con grandissima gentilezza e simpatia. Gli presentai sei brani troppo vari e troppo acerbi, ma li ascoltammo tutti, commentadoli e discutendone. Ad un certo punto nell’ufficio di Stefano entrarono Robi, Dodi e Red e allora mi emozionai un poco, visto che erano stati dei punti di riferimento nella mia gioventù e Dodi in particolare della mia formazione da chitarrista; ricordo che discutevano riguardo al progetto del musical Pinocchio. Comunque….a Stefano piacque molto Sandalina e mi chiese il brano. Io stupidamente rifiutai, rinunciando di fatto ad un possibile inizio di collaborazione con lui e con il mondo della band italiana più longeva di sempre. Se potessi sriverla è una storia che fa ridere…

Un anno e mezzo fa ho voluto nuovamente registrare il brano, perchè l’ho sempre ritenuto valido, arricchendolo con una sezione di chitarre che emulano le mandole e regalano un’atmosfera vagamente napoletana a questa specie di bagatelle per chitarra, che spero piaccia a chi vorrà ascoltarla. Sandalina is a song from the album Il punto and it is part of the acoustic section of the project, along with Non ti voltare, Cose che succedono, and Tutto il bisogno che hai. Sandalina was written many years ago … I think almost twenty years ago to tell the truth…two lifetimes ago (!). It was part of a demo by my old band Triplo Gioco, to which I wanted to add this “bucolic” song that was inspired a little by Angelo Branduardi and a little by Led Zeppelin, a sweet nursery rhyme with no particular or deep meanings, but very cute and inspired. Many years ago I had the opportunity to meet Stefano D’Orazio in the Pooh’s headquarters thanks to the good wishes of the actress Maria Amelia Monti, whom I knew from the work of her grandfather, the great painter Cesare Monti. Maria Amelia introduced me and Stefano welcomed me with great kindness and sympathy. I presented him with six pieces that were too varied and too immature, but we listened to them all, commented on them and discussed them. At a certain point in Stefano’s office Robi, Dodi and Red entered and then I got excited a little, since they had been points of reference in my youth and Dodi in particular in my training as a guitarist; I remember they were arguing about the project for the musical Pinocchio. Anyway …. Stefano liked very much Sandalina and asked me for the song. I foolishly refused, giving up in fact a possible start of collaboration with him and with the world of the longest-running Italian band ever. If I could write, it’s a story that make you laugh…

A year and a half ago I wanted to record the song again, because I have always considered it valid, enriching it with a section of guitars that emulate the mandolas and give a vaguely Neapolitan atmosphere to this kind of bagatelle for guitar, which I hope will appeal to those who will want to hear it.
